Welcome to the Alliance Française de Darwin

Soon after its creation in Paris, at the end of the 19th Century, the Alliance Française was administered by people like Louis Pasteur, Ernest Renan and Ferdinand de Lesseps.

The aim of the Alliance Française is to promote French language and culture around the world, as non- profit organisation. Each branch is integrated in its community with the Alliance Française de Paris ensuring that principles of neutrality, both politically and religiously are applied.

The Alliance Française de Darwin has been in existence since 1985.

A major public event called Free French Film will be held at the Jingili Watergardens on 25th September 2009

Alliance Française de Darwin will present La Prophétie des Grenouilles (Raining Cats and Frogs) an animation movie suitable for the whole family that has received wide acclaim.

A feelgood movie that touches the heart and minds of both young and old alike.  The animation in this film makes it more like art than a cartoon.  The clarity of the speakers and the language uses makes it accessible to many French learners whilst still engaging for francophones.  This charming film can be watched over and over with its many dimensions and metaphors.  Yet it retains a simplicity with the age-old story of good winning over evil.

Not many films make you laugh and cry and then leave you with a sense of joy and a feeling of having experienced something very special.   This movie should not be missed

Story: On a cosy farm perched at the top of a hill, Tom lives with his loving foster parents: the calm and wise ex-sailor Ferdinand and the temperamental African Juliette. Their neighbours own a small country zoo and Tom is best friends with their daughter Lili.

When her parents go on a short trip, they entrust their daughter and the animals to Tom's family. The children are thrilled, but the 'Frog Elder' soon warns them that they are in grave danger: the frogs predict 40 days of continuous rain.

The wind starts blowing and black clouds start gathering. This is the start of an incredible adventure filled with hardship and misery.

Raining Cats and Frogs is a masterpiece that took 6 years to complete: 2 years writing, 36 months of production  (eight to ten seconds of film per day ), and one year in post-production.
